At the advent of globalisation in the
last decade of 20th century as conceptualised
by the Govt. of India, rapid industrialisation
started cropping up in the state of
Rajasthan and its vicinity. There was
a persistent demand from the industrial
sector as well as from the Govt. of
Rajasthan to the Govt. of India for
establishing a branch of National Test
House at Jaipur to cater the dire need
of testing and quality evaluation as
per national and international standards
of the raw materials and finished products
for the blooming industries in and arround
the state of Rajasthan. In response
to the Govt. of India's intention for
setting up a North West Regional Centre
of National Test House in the state
of Rajasthan, NTH had made an elaborate
assessment on the feasibility, suitability
and commercial viability of the proposal,
and having satisfied with the study
report, decided to lay the foundation
of its fifth regional laboratory in
the city of Jaipur- the capital of Rajasthan.
The dream project was fructified very
soon and National Test House, Jaipur
Godown, Jaipur. As the potential for
testing and quality evaluation of Civil
and Chemical Engineering related mterial
in the industrial sectors were profound
in the state of Rajasthan, NTH, Jaipur
started its functioning in the ambit
of Civil and Chemical disciplines only.
An overwhelming response from the industrial
circles together with the enterprising
services both in terms of quality and
quantity by the scientists and technical
personnels of NTH, Jaipur transformed
this regional laboratory into a centre
of Excellence for testing and quality
assurance of engineering stoes related
to Civil and Chemical Enginering disciplines
Building materials like cement, sand,
brick, waterproofing compounds, concreteagglomeration,
plywood, door shutter and block board
etc. pertaining to Civil discipline
started pouring in for testing and quality
evaluation from Govt. Departments like
state PWD, CPWD, autonomous bodies lije
BIS, private enterprises and even individuals.
Similar vibrant activities were attained
in the Chemical discipline too. To cope
up with the customers ever increasing
demand new testing facilities were added
every year both in Civil and Chemical
disciplines. In fact, for the last couple
of years, the target assigned for NTH,
Jaipur for generating revenue from the
testing, quality assurance and technical
consultancy services were accomplished
by cent percent. Visualising the enormou
potential for further growth and prospect
and to create more facilities at NTH,
Jaipur which was not being possible
in the exiting premises due to inadequate
space, a land of measuring around 2.3
acres was acquired by NTH, Jaipur in
the year 1999 with due assistance from
Govt. of Rajasthan at Vishwakarma Industrial
Area, Jaipur. The new building to be
owned absolutely by NTH, Jaipur has
been completed within the stipulated
target period by dint of joint effort
by CPWD, Dept. of Consumer Affairs,
Govt. of India and Scientists and other
personnels of NAtional Test House. The
estimated cost of construction of this
new building of NTH, Jaipur is 2.96
crores and covered area which includes
laboratory and administrative blocks
is approximately 1884 sq. meters. The
structure of the new building presently
consist of basement and ground floor
having provisions for further extension
of another two floors in future.
Major
area to be explored shortly by NTH,
Jaipur in its new building
The Chemical discipline of NTH, Jaipur
wil undertake the testing and quality
evaluation of packaged Drinking Water
as per relevant IS specification from
its new premises. The state of the art
instruments for both Chemical and Bacteriological
analysis of packaged Drinking Water
have already been installed in the Chemical
Laboratory ofb the new premises and
Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) has
evinced its keen interest to utilise
the facilities available for testing
and quality evaluation of Packaged Drinking
Water in a substantial way.
New testing
areas to be established in near future
NTH, Jaipur has contemplated to open
the testing facilities in the field
of Electrical, Mechanical and RPPT (Rubber,
Plastic, Paper & Textile) disciplines
in near future in addition to its existing
facilities in the Civil and Chemical
disciplines respectively.
